The Battle of the Monongahela
July 9, 1755
The BBHC, in North Braddock, Pa., stands on the very ground where the Battle of the Monongahela — better known as “Braddock’s Defeat” — took place. It is the most widely recognized battle of the French and Indian War (1754-1763) which developed into the first world-wide great powers conflict, the Seven Years’ War (1756-63). This battle was crucial to the military education of a young George Washington and helped inform his destiny as commander of the Continental Army in the American Revolution.

The events that took place on this hill overlooking the Monongahela and their impact on world history deserve a modern innovative storytelling experience for visitors. BBHC’s Board of Directors seeks to make the History Center into a world-class museum and the focal point of a multi-use community space in the heart of North Braddock. The current site — and the rich history it represents — already provides an exciting platform for an expanded artifact collection that would be enhanced by state-of-the-art immersive exhibits and interactive educational technology. As the expansion campaign gets underway the Board welcomes the support and participation of all individuals and organizations interested in preserving this vital piece of Pennsylvania and America’s history.
