Whiskey Rebels at Braddock's Field Fundraiser

Join us at the BBHC, located on a historic part of Braddock’s Field, for a FREE event celebrating the 232nd anniversary of the Whiskey Rebellion!
On August 1, 1794, approximately 7,000 rebels gathered at Braddock’s Field to plan an 8-mile trek to Pittsburgh to fight the federal government over the Whiskey Tax of 1791.
Enjoy a summer evening of whiskey tastings featuring West Overton Distilling, Liberty Pole Spirits, and more. Historical interpreters, live music, and complimentary museum admission to commemorate the historic gathering bring Braddock’s Field to life.
Food and beverages are available for purchase from area food trucks. Event held rain or shine!

Live Music Performed by Alex Brown
Local historian, living history docent, and historical musician Alex Brown will entertain event attendees with a selection of American fiddle and banjo music found in southwestern Pennsylvania and the Appalachian Mountains. |
Meet Albert Gallatin Portrayed by Ron Duquette
Mr. Duquette brings to life a vivid portrayal of the country’s longest-serving Secretary of the U.S. Treasury, longtime Pennsylvania legislator, and champion who played a pivotal role in the Whiskey Rebellion establishing a reputation as a leader who sought to balance the interests of the frontier farmers and the federal government. Gallatin went on to become a significant figure in the early political landscape of the United States. |

Liberty Pole Spirits
Liberty Pole crafts its whiskey entirely in-house, using Pennsylvania-grown grains, a sweet mash process, double pot distillation, and long-term aging in Pennsylvania’s only traditional five-story rickhouse, (a specialized warehouse where whiskey barrels are stored and aged, designed to optimize flavor development through controlled temperature, humidity, and airflow.) Nationally recognized for bold, distinctive whiskeys, the distillery is known for its acclaimed Old Monongahela Rye and award-winning Peated Rye, named American Rye Whiskey of the Year by Whiskeyfellow. |
West Overton Distilling
From the early 19th century to Prohibition in 1920, West Overton was home to a large and successful distilling operation as the birthplace of the original Old Overholt Whiskey. Since 2020, West Overton Distilling has revived the tradition of making rye whiskey on site in a modern distillery, found in a renovated 19th century barn. West Overton Distilling produces Monongahela rye whiskey, considered the classic American whiskey before Prohibition. West Overton Distilling supports the educational mission of West Overton Village, a nonprofit museum and historic site in Scottdale, PA. |
Still Mill Distillery
Based in Swissvale, Still Mill Distillery crafts small-batch spirits with care and creativity. In addition to WoodWater, its signature spirit, the distillery produces gins and liqueurs that combine local character with time-honored methods. Red Pump Spirits
Red Pump Spirits is a small batch craft distillery dedicated to producing spirits of exceptional quality. Founded in 2015 as the first licensed distillery in Washington County Pennsylvania since Prohibition, the distillery produces a traditional Rye Whiskey inspired by the historic style of Western Pennsylvania, along with a lineup of liqueurs made from distilled fruits. Ponfeigh Distillery
In the early 1940’s, not long after the end of prohibition, the founder of W.A. Merrill Sons and Company purchased fertile land and created an award-winning dairy farm. One day while updating the farmstead with a recently reclaimed barn one of Merrill’s miners made a sudden outburst. When he crested the hill and laid eyes on the hillsides and fertile valley, the Welsh immigrant named McDowell, screamed “Ponfeigh!”. The old entrepreneur loved this verbal admiration so much that the farm and future coal mines adorned this title which he thought meant “wonderful” or “awesome”.
